this week Federal Tech Talk, Host John Gilroy speaks with Enrique Oti, Chief Technology Officer of Second Front Systems.

When it comes to federal information technology trend ideas, there’s nothing better than talking about Silicon Valley’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Boston’s Kessel Run. Both represent an attempt to bring a commercially successful solution to complex DoD software requirements.

Enrique Oti, CTO, Second Front System

Oti was the co-founder of DIU and Kessel Run. DIU was founded in 2015. Based in Silicon Valley, we have offices in Boston, Austin and the Pentagon. The concept is to get creative problem solvers to understand military requirements. Kessel Run is a “software factory”. Based in Boston, we work closely with the Air Force to streamline and improve large IT projects.

In this interview, Enrique talks about Pentagon innovation. He details some of the challenges in launching these unique innovation organizations. He talks about the number of federal innovation units focused on national security.

One of the interesting areas of innovation that Oti is expanding is where it can be applied to acquisitions. Technology is changing so rapidly that it is difficult for acquisition professionals to get used to the new technology.

Oti is optimistic that the United States will be able to harness creativity and leverage the capabilities of artificial intelligence to quickly deliver critical technology to fighters.
