Tampa, Florida-The Tampa Bay area is one of Florida’s most sensitive areas for climate change, especially for rising sea levels.
NOAA conducted a detailed analysis of many different scenarios and found that many of our neighborhoods are underwater with a sea level rise of only 3 feet.
Some of the most vulnerable areas to this are South Tampa, most of St. Pete north of downtown, all beach islands along the Gulf, and most of southern Hillsborough County, including Ruskin and Apollo Beach.
As sea level rises, the water level of local rivers rises.
Floods also affect those who live in Tampa along the Hillsborough River and those who live in Riverview along the Alafia River, far from the actual coast.
NOAA has created a detailed map that you can access at home and zoom down on the street to see how different levels of sea level rise affect the community.
