Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – The city nodded to the roots of the property nightclub and offered a nearly completed new library sneak peak. “We installed flooring here to remind us of the caravan east,” said Shell Sanchez, director of arts and culture in the city of Albuquerque. “It was here before, and this will be the only community room in a library with a wooden floor where we can actually teach dance classes.”
The city will leave a historic sign for Caravan East outside the new library along Central in the International District. Authorities say it will be one of the largest libraries in the city, running seven days a week with programs for all ages.
They say it is expected to fill a big gap in the neighborhood. “That is, the library is a community gathering place. Educational space, learning space, and it’s a place for adults to access a lot of resources and information. I think it’s important to have it in the international district.” Sanchez said.
The site still needs some finishing touches, but the city will open by the end of the year.
