Malvern, Iowa (KMTV) — Paper or Plastic? It’s not a question that is often asked anymore. Most grocery stores only offer plastic bags or offer the option to bring your own.
But Iowa’s grocery store wants to see if you choose plastic, it’s been used well when you’re done with it.
“When I brought plastic recycled bags back to the grocery store, I wanted to close the loop and show consumers what they would be like,” said Michel Haad, chairman of the Iowa Food Industry Association.

The Build with Bag program, a bench, planter and playground, has created hundreds of works that can be found in the state.
The city of Malvern was recently awarded $ 2,000 through a program to purchase park benches surrounding the promenade of Bener Pond.
“We’re trying to make it an all-inclusive space so that people of all levels and abilities can come out and enjoy the pond,” said Natalie Lancial of the city’s Health Hometown Coalition. A distance or a place to rest would really help improve the use of the pond here. “
The grant is paid to seven benches, each made of over 10,000 plastic bags.
“Some of the commemorative wooden benches don’t last long. So why not use a durable, recycled product?”
Over the past 12 years, millions of plastic bags have reached Second Life, awarding more than $ 365,000 to more than 250 communities across the state, Hurd said.
“These dollars really help a lot. We can see that they have a positive impact on the entire Iowa community.”
