J & J recipients can make special requests to obtain an “additional dose” of the mRNA vaccine, city health officials said in a statement to CNBC, calling the second shot a “booster.” I refused to do that. The J & J vaccine requires only one vaccination and the recipient is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the injection.

In a phone call with reporters late Tuesday, San Francisco health officials said they were allowing patients to take additional shots due to high requests from residents. They argued that the J & J vaccine was very effective against the virus and its variants.

Naveena Bobba, Deputy Director of Health at the San Francisco Public Health Service, said:

Health officials said they would not recommend booster shots at this time, following guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“This move does not represent a change in SFDPH policy,” the public health sector said in a statement. “We continue to support the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance and do not recommend booster shots at this time. We will continue to review new data and adjust the guidance as needed.”

The CDC currently does not recommend mixing Covid shots for Americans in most situations, and federal health officials say no booster vaccination is required at this time.

Announcements from San Francisco health officials come to say that some Americans are finding them How to get additional doses of Covid vaccine Concerns about the highly contagious Delta variant have even led to receiving additional shots from various companies.

Dr. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Georgetown University, told CNBC last month that she received a booster dose of Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine in late June, two months after receiving a single dose of J & J. rice field. She said she was concerned about the level of protection against Delta after studies suggested that a single dose of the Covid vaccine was inadequate.

Since Rasmussen received the booster shot, new studies suggest that the J & J vaccine is far less effective against delta and lambda variants than the original virus. Researchers who led the study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, say they want J & J recipients to eventually receive booster shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

The new study is in conflict with J & J’s study, which found that shots were effective against deltas, especially severe illnesses and hospitalizations, even eight months after vaccination. As highly contagious delta variants continue to spread throughout the United States, the debate over mixing and matching shots in the United States could reignite.

J & J did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the announcement from the San Francisco Public Health Service.
