Jackson County seeking court order to shut down Rae’s Café | Coronavirus – Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City, Missouri 2021-09-08 22:00:00 –

Kansas City, Missouri (KCTV)-The Jackson County Secretariat issued a statement late Wednesday calling for a court order to close the Rays Cafe.

The restaurant, which closed last week due to non-compliance with County Mask’s orders, reopened as a private club last weekend. The owner requires a one-time $ 1 membership fee to attend the maskless cafe.

Ignoring Maskman dating and revocation of permits, Rays Cafe reopened Saturday morning as a “private club” available only to friends and family.

Private clubs are exempt from county mask orders.

The Jackson County Environmental Health Department issued a notice to the Rays Cafe last weekend to suspend / revoke the permit. The sign on the front door of the business indicates that the restaurant was closed because it “does not comply with Jackson County’s health orders and poses a serious threat to the health and safety of its patrons.”

Despite some warnings and attempts to collaborate with the company and its owners, the county executive office “she refused to take corrective action and revealed that she had no plans to do so.” It states.

According to the county, this is the first time they have sought a court order to close a business during a pandemic.
