Jan. 6 hearings resume with surprise testimony from top Trump aide – Florence, South Carolina

Florence, South Carolina 2022-06-28 10:24:11 –

Washington(NewsNation) — The House Election Commission investigating the January 6 riots at the US Capitol is expected to hear from former President Donald Trump’s top White House aide.

Cassidy Hutchinson, who is expected to testify in a surprise hearing on Tuesday, is an important witness to a thorough investigation of the January 6, 2021 attack, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. ..

Hutchinson, a special aide and aide to Mark Meadows, Trump’s Chief of Staff, has already provided the Commission and its investigators with a great deal of information and responded to multiple interviews in a closed room.

The House committee does not explain why the 1:00 pm hearing was suddenly scheduled because the lawmakers were away from Washington for a two-week adjournment. The committee said last week that there would be no hearing until July. This is the fifth televised hearing investigating the riots at the Capitol.

The exact subject of the Tuesday hearing was still unknown, but Monday’s panel announcement stated that it was “presenting recently obtained evidence and receiving witness testimony.” A spokesman for the panel refused to give details, and Hutchinson’s lawyer did not immediately respond to the email asking for comment.

NewsNation will livestream the hearing at 1:00 pm ET. You can watch the hearing live with the player above.
