Jarrod West keyed the second half of the rally as Louisville defeated Maryland 63-55 and survived the second half of the seesaw in the title game of the Bahamas Championship in Nassau on Saturday morning.

Malik Williams provided 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Noah Rock added 12 points as the Cardinals (5-1) won four straight games. Early in the second half, Louisville wasted an eight-point lead, down five points before the rally.

Four-year assistant Mike Pegues returns the reins to head coach Chris Mack, who had been suspended for six games due to handling the off-season dismissal of assistant coach Dino Gaudio.

Maryland (5-2) was led by Donta Scott, who scored 14 points and collected six rebounds. Fatts Russell added 11 points and 6 boards. Scott ejected a 3-point pair when the Cardinals made a 13-point run to take the 47-42 lead with less than seven minutes left before the Cardinals rally.

Locke triggered a spurt with a fade away jumper, followed by a three-pointer from Matt Cross. West then took over and scored Louisville’s next seven points. This includes the remaining 3:47 long-range 3 points that gave the Cardinals a permanent lead. West finished with 9 points and 6 assists.

During the final 2:40, Williams scored in the feed from West and made all four free throws, which helped him maintain his advantage.

Early in the game, Xavier Green hit a difficult fade-away 3 pointer to give Maryland a 7-point lead. However, in the middle of the first half, Louisville continued a 12-2 run to turn a 5-point deficit into a 5-point lead. Dray Davis scored four straight points at the feast and Roosevelt Wheeler continued his emphasized slam dunk.
