Her daughter said Tuesday night that Jan Connery, a former WTAE personality and Pittsburgh broadcast pioneer, had died. Her daughter said Connery died peacefully at her home on Monday. She was 97 years old. Connery became one of WTAE’s former employees in 1958 and launched his own talk show, the Jean Connery Show, from 1960 to 1973. Connery is a news anchor, hosting the Women’s Championship Bowling, and her hit talk show. She decided to leave the broadcast schedule in 1975 and became WTAE’s director of public services for the next 13 years. In 2002, Connery was the first woman to be inducted into the Pennsylvania Broadcasting Hall of Fame from western Pennsylvania, with three children and five grandchildren surviving.
