(NEXSTAR) – “Big Lebowski” star Jeff Bridges had good news in the fight against cancer on Monday. The Oscar-winning actor also revealed that he almost died of COVID-19 after being infected with the coronavirus during chemotherapy.

“My cancer is in remission—the 9×12 mass has shrunk to the size of a marble,” Bridges wrote. On his website.. “My Covid is in the rearview mirror … Covid kicked my a ** pretty well, but I’ve been double vaccinated and I’m feeling much better now.”

Bridges announced in October 2020 that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma.

On Monday, he also shared an entry recording a tragic battle with COVID-19, which was not open to the public at the time, from March 2021.

According to Bridges, the chemotherapy center sent him a letter in January warning that he may have been exposed to the virus during treatment.

He said both he and his wife were ultimately positive and were hospitalized.

“She spends five days in the hospital. Herself …? I’m there 5 several weeks.. “

Bridges said he believed that the immune system weakened by chemotherapy was responsible for the long-term stay.

“My dance with Covid makes my cancer look like a cake,” he added. “I had a tremendous moment of pain (screaming, moaning all night), but I approached the gates of heaven …”

But Bridges said the experience taught him the fleeting beauty of life and inspired him to “receive the gift” it gives.

“That is, who wants to get cancer and Covid?” He said. “I know I do that because I can learn more about love and what I would never get without it.”

Bridges revealed that until recently he needed oxygen to walk around and his own breathing reminded him of Darth Vader in “Star Wars.” The goal of his treatment was to lose his oxygen tank in time to walk down the aisle with his daughter Haley at a recent wedding.

“I was able to not only walk Hay along the aisle, but also dance my father / bride with her without oxygen.”

Now, the award-winning actor says he’s also looking forward to returning to the production of the FX series “The Old Man.”
