Day, a 25-year-old graduate student at Illinois State University, was reported missing by family and faculty members on August 25, according to the report. Bloomington Police Station..
His family couldn’t contact him after talking on the night of August 23, and he was last seen in a surveillance video entering a Bloomington retail store on the morning of August 24.
Police placed Day’s car in the woodlands near YMCA, Illinois Valley, Peru, on August 26, leaving behind the last clothes he saw.
Just a week later, on September 4, a team of police, fire and rescue authorities discovered “an unidentified body just off the south bank of the Illinois River” during a systematic search of the LaSalle-Peru region. ..
The next day, Bloomington police said the LaSalle County Coroner office began investigating the circumstances surrounding the person’s death, which could take days or weeks to identify.
“People are encouraged to refrain from speculation, as the investigation is ongoing and can take a considerable amount of time,” they added.
Carmen Bolden Day Told member station WGLT The discovery of the body seems to have stagnated his son’s case. She said state police collected DNA samples from her family on September 6, but were told that their lab did not have the chemicals needed to process them.
She also said that the Bloomington Police Department was able to concentrate on the case with only one detective, “If he quits, does that mean we stop looking for my son? ? “
BPD officer John Fermon told the station that one detective was assigned to lead the case, while other staff were instructed to assist in the investigation if necessary.
In a recent update on Monday, the BPD said the detective was still “actively investigating the case” and was organizing tips. They added that their efforts include collecting and analyzing digital and physical evidence, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and searching for other leads.
Bolden Day talked about the difference between his son’s case and Petito’s case in social media and interviews, at some point Petito’s face was “filled everywhere” and the FBI was involved after she went missing for two days. But it didn’t get the same attention after Day went missing for a long time.
As she told WGLT, she doesn’t claim that Petit is worth less, but that day is worth more.
“I want them to look for my child as they are looking for her,” she said in tears. In a local TV interview.. “He’s not anyone, someone, and I want him to go home. I want them to pay the same attention to my son, and this young white girl gets that attention. Offend me because I am, and not my young black son. “
