JM Smucker Co. issued a recall on Friday for some of the Jif peanut butter products sold in US retail stores due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recalled product lot code is 1274425-2140425 and can be found by the “best if used” date.
Salmonella can be serious or fatal to children, the frail, the elderly, and those with weakened immunity. news release.
Symptoms include fever, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Salmonella can also lead to more serious illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis, officials say.
