2-year-old died of brain-eating amoeba | Brain-eating amoeba US news

A 2-year-old boy has died in Nevada from a brain-eating amoeba.

Woodrow Bundy died Wednesday of Naegleria fowleri, his mother announced.

The boy is believed to have been exposed to a deadly amoeba in a natural hot spring.

Woodrow’s mother, Brianna, wrote on Facebook that she fought for seven days.

“He is my hero and I will forever be grateful to God for giving me the best boy on earth, and I am grateful to know that one day I will have him in Heaven,” she said.

Naegleria fowleri, a microscopic single-celled amoeba, lives in soil and warm freshwater, according to the Nevada Department of Public Health Action.

It infects the body by entering the body through the nose and reaching the brain, causing a serious infection that destroys brain tissue and is almost always fatal.

Symptoms begin with severe headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting, followed by stiff neck, seizures, coma, and death.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), four of the 157 people who have been infected with amoeba in the United States since 1962 have survived.

The report advises people to avoid jumping into warm fresh water or sticking their head in hot spring water.
