Students in the Parish of Jefferson will have shorter holidays and vacations to make up for the time lost by Hurricane Katrina. The new calendar was approved by the board of directors on Monday. The most devastated school students were absent from classes for about 23 days. The school with the least damage was absent from classes for about 14 days. Parents and teachers came out to express their concerns. Some teachers said they were worried about the health hazards of the storm. They also said authorities should take the COVID-19 pandemic into account. Authorities voted for Option B on Monday 8-1.
