According to this year’s survey, Intel Corporation is the nation’s most faith-friendly workplace. Ranking Religious Freedom and Business Foundation Evaluation of Big Business.

The Corporate Religious Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) Index uses a scale of 10 to determine the ranking of companies.

among them:

  • Is your religion featured on your company’s main diversity page?
  • Does the company sponsor faith-based alliances such as employee resource groups?
  • Are religions clearly addressed in diversity training?
  • Does the company match employee donations to religious charities?

The index found that 219 of the Fortune 500 companies mention or illustrate religion on their primary diversity landing page. This is an increase from 202 cases in the previous year.

The number of Fortune 500 companies that publicly announced they have faith-oriented employee resource groups (ERGs) dropped significantly from 37 in 2022 to just 43.

The full REDI Index report highlights what specific companies’ ERGs are doing to support religious diversity and inclusion.

For example, Ford Motor Corporation includes information about the Ford Interfaith Network (FIN) in the orientation process for all new hires. According to reports, “they have eight faiths that make up FIN.” The report details how these eight Faith ERGs each have their own dedicated budgets and internal resources such as email groups and executive sponsors.

The report also said Target’s multi-religious networks of Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam play a key role in strengthening the company’s “culture of belonging.”

One of the rarer indicators in the index is whether companies offer pastoral or other spiritual care services. The report draws particular attention to Tyson Foods’ pastoral program. “Tyson has 100 pastors in a 22-year program, available 7/24/365 for all U.S. team members,” the report said.

To draw attention to the religious ERG, the Religious Freedom and Business Foundation also named the heads of these groups at Accenture, Equinix, Google and American Airlines “Leaders of the Year.”

While Intel was named the “most faith-friendly” company overall, the REDI Index breaks down companies by sector.

The Ford Motor Company spearheaded the automobile industry. American Airlines has achieved the number one position in the aviation industry. Target ranked first in retail. The index ranks PayPal as the most religiously friendly financial services company.

The 2023 Index is the fourth annual measurement by the Religious Freedom and Business Foundation to assess the DEI commitment of American companies.
