Nueces County, Texas — Thursday afternoon, the jury room at Nueces County Hall was filled with judges.
That can usually be a reason for concern. But everyone was smiling on that day.
That’s because the judges got together to give Tristyn Taylor Villarreal a $ 2,800 scholarship. She is currently working in court shorthand to earn an associate degree from Delmar University.
Tristyn recently wrote to Judge Missy Medary asking about scholarship opportunities. Judge Medary quickly put together a fellow judge to help with this scholarship gift.
Overwhelmed by joy, Tristin told the judge, “Thank you for allowing me to pursue my dream and my goal of becoming a court reporter.”
A Delmar student who went on to college for the first time in his family said he would study pre-law at Trinity University in San Antonio once he had a bachelor’s degree.
