Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — Julio Jones landed in Music City on Monday after the Tennessee Titans replaced the superstar Falcons receiver.
Jones arrived on a Titans private jet and was greeted by General Manager John Robinson at the tarmac.
The Titans won the sixth round nomination with Jones in 2023, gave Atlanta a second round nomination in 2022, and a fourth round nomination in 2023.
“We’ve had a lot of discussions over the last few weeks. Yesterday it was a bit more intense, but this morning we finally came to a conclusion and agreed to the terms.” Said Robinson. “We had a chance to shoot ourselves and felt that this was a move that needed to be triggered. I’m happy to do that.”
The Falcons’ previous round pick recorded 848 catches, 12,896 yards and 60 touchdowns in his career destined to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Due to financial challenges on both teams, it can take several days to complete the transaction. Jones’ current deal costs Titans $ 15.3 million this year, and their salary cap space is currently less than $ 4 million. Titans need to find a way to abandon players, restructure deals, or significantly reduce the number of Jones in order to officialize the deal. Robinson said he would keep these discussions “private,” but showed that he believed that no one would give up and go below the cap.
