Tulsa, Oklahoma — Green Foundation Justice announces a six-digit gift for the survival of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre.

With the help of organizations and other online fundraising activities, the Foundation has donated $ 100,000 to Lessy Benningfield “Mother” Randall, Viola “Mother” Fletcher and Hughes Van Ellis.

According to a statement from the Justice for Greenwood Foundation, the gift represents “an important step on the long-awaited path to justice” for the survivors of the race slaughter.

Damario Solomon Simmons, Founder and Executive Director of the Justice for Greenwood Foundation, said of the gift:

“We are very proud to play our part in correcting these injustices. The immense pain inflicted on the survival of the slaughter cannot be undone, but not just the slaughter itself. Reducing the current financial burden of subsequent systematic racism is the bare minimum we can do for them as we continue to seek compensation. , We must allow their stories to be told, face our past, learn from it, and proactively challenge lasting injustice. “

This year, the city of Tulsa celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre on Black Wall Street in Tulsa.

This catastrophic event destroyed dozens of black businesses and homes and claimed the lives of more than 300 blacks living in the Greenwood area.

Survivors recently testified at a parliamentary subcommittee hearing, seeking reparations from both the city of Tulsa and Oklahoma and accountability for the slaughter.

At this time, the newly passed resolution does not include the payment of compensation.
