Justin Herbert threw three touchdowns and Austin Eckeller rushed 117 yards to score twice. Los Angeles Chargers Knocked the Las Vegas Raiders from an undefeated rank with a 28-14 victory on Monday night.
Los Angeles is 3-1 for the first time since 2014 and is part of a three-way tie between Las Vegas and Denver in the AFC West. The Raiders’ defeat means that Arizona Cardinals will be the NFL’s only undefeated team four weeks later.
When the Chargers built a 21-0 half-time lead, Herbert, who completed 25 of the 38 passes in the first half at 222 yards, accounted for all TDs. The Raiders drew in the touchdown with their first two belongings in the second half, but Ekeller gave Los Angeles room to escape from the 11-yard left guard. Herbert played an important drive in the 13-yard complete to Jared Cook in 4th and 2nd from the midfield.
Eckeller, who totals 145 yards, also held a touchdown reception in the second quarter.
Derek Carr was 21 out of 34 at 196 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The Raiders were in a hurry to manage only 48 yards against the League’s last Chargers defense in the Rand Defense.
The Chargers took the opening kick-off and advanced 75 yards in 12 plays. Herbert completed all six passes on the drive. This included a 4-yard bullet to the tight-end Donald Parham behind the end zone, leading 7-0.
Los Angeles scored in the last two drives of the first half, extending the lead to 21-0 in half-time. Herbert’s 10-yard TD to Cook was set up with the completion of 41 yards.
After the Raiders three-out, Herbert led the Chargers with a nine-play drive. He completed his last five passes, including a 14-yard screen to Ekeller for the score.
Las Vegas was down one in the first half to 51 netyards, but made half-time adjustments and scored in the first two possessions in the second half. The Raiders kicked off in the third quarter, scoring when Carr found Hunter Renfroe in a 10-yard touchdown.
Darren Waller pulled Las Vegas in the TD when he caught a three-yard pass, leaving 1:44 in third.
