Juvenile faces arson count after setting fire in detention center holding cell, officials say | Crime/Police – New Orleans, Louisiana

A boy at the Baton Rouge Juvenile Training School faces a number of arson after burning bed sheets and trash in his cell, which was housed on Monday. According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the flames were quickly extinguished by staff and were not injured.

The incident took place in a detention center at 8333 Veterans Memorial Boulevard just before 12:30 pm.

A fire department investigator called to the scene determined that the fire was intentionally set. The boy was safely taken out of the cell and the others in that building were moved to another building for safety.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the boy will be booked due to worsening arson.
