Overland Park, Kansas — Paul Hansen spent 20 years in the US Air Force and was stationed in South Korea.

“”[There were] There were two places with heat and light. One was a local bar and the other was a gym, “said Paul Hansen.

Immediately after he married his wife Joyce, she joined him at the gym.

“A few years ago, they had a men’s gym and a women’s gym. I couldn’t mix the two, but Joyce went to the men’s gym because it was the place where the weights were.” Said Paul.

Weights, and Paul and Joyce, can be found at KC Weightlifting in Overland Park.

Both are in their 70s and are the oldest members of the gym.

However, couples are still raising the bar for health and strength.

“I am very grateful every minute. I should remember every minute and be blessed every minute,” Joyce said.

They impressed their classmates.

“I want to be Joyce and Paul in the 70’s,” said Anna Martin, head coach of KC weightlifting. “You don’t see it very often.”

Paul and Joyce also set foot in the national convention and brought back brilliant souvenirs from all over the country.

“A year ago you were in Zumba. This year you are a national champion,” Martin said. “There is nothing wrong with Zumba, but how much power can it be to lift a heavy weight overhead?”

This couple, who have been married for over 40 years, do more than just lift these weights themselves.

“We enjoy and enjoy our grandchildren. In November, we have a fifth grandchild, which means I can lift them,” Joyce said.

They want to inspire their peers, with or without weight.

“If only one person can help them get out and start walking in tennis shoes, they will feel better,” Joyce said.
