Topeka, KAN (KSNW) – Kansas Department of Health and Environment Dr. Joan Duwve has announced that he has been appointed Deputy Health Officer of the State.
Dr. Duwve has been a KDHE consultant since November 2020. She leads the state’s COVID-19 testing program and supports health inequalities initiatives.
Prior to serving as a consultant, he was Director of Public Health, Department of Health and Environmental Management, South Carolina, Vice Dean of the Department of Public Health, Richard M. Fairbanks, Indiana University, Indianapolis, and Department of Health, Indiana. Prior to her public health role, she practiced family medicine in Indiana.
“Dr. Duwve is a public health expert and we are very fortunate to have her in Kansas,” said Dr. Lee Norman, KDHE Secretary. “Her previous experience in Indiana and South Carolina has helped us with all public health issues.”
Dr. Duwve holds a degree in medicine from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan. She started her role on July 19th.
