Topeka, Kansas (KSNT) – With approximately 1,100 National Guard deployed in Washington, DC to assist in law enforcement, Kansas National Guard may have a role to play.
Deputy General Manager of Public Relations Jane Welch told KSN that the situation surrounding Kansas members going to DC is “very fluid.”
Welch said he would release more detailed information as the plan became more “concrete.”
The Missouri National Guard’s Interim Public Relations Director has confirmed that the Missouri National Guard will be dispatched to Washington, DC.
According to the Associated Press, defense officials said all 1,100 members of the Washington, DC Guard had been activated and sent to the city’s arsenal. Members are assigned for checkpoints and other similar missions. It may also help enforce the curfew at 6 pm in the city.
Security guards have a very specific mission that does not involve taking on law enforcement roles in the Capitol.
National Guard are required to release more law enforcement agencies to respond to the Capitol when needed.
