Kanye West announces ending partnership with Gap | Kanye West

Kanye West bids farewell to Gap.

Kanye West’s attorney, who identified himself as Ye, told the Associated Press that a letter was sent to the clothing chain on Thursday seeking to terminate the contract between Gap and West’s company, Yeezy.

The clash comes a little over a year after Yeezy’s first item, a blue puffer jacket, hit Gap stores. The deal was announced in June 2020.

Nicholas Grabante, West attorney for Cadwallader, Wickersham & Taft, said in a statement emailed to the AP, “Gap has terminated their cooperation agreement due to Gap’s material non-performance. I had no choice but to quit,” he said.

“You have diligently tried to resolve these issues either directly with Gap or through your attorney.

Gravante said Gap’s noncompliance with the terms of the deal has cost him more. He said West plans to start opening his Yeezy retail stores.

Gap was not immediately reachable for comment on Thursday.

The San Francisco retailer hoped its partnership with West would resonate with customers during a time of declining sales. It could have put the brand in front of more people.

West has a history of Gap. As a teenager, he worked at the company’s store in Chicago. And he told Vanity Fair magazine in 2015 that he wanted to be the brand’s creative director.
