Honolulu, Hawaii 2020-10-17 16:01:00 –
Kauai officials said this morning that the island had one newly identified case of coronavirus, two possible infections, and until test results were available.
The Kauai District Health Department said the confirmed cases were related to interisland travel, but the possible cases were household contacts.
Both people were quarantined and all close contact with the two infected individuals was directed to quarantine and provided for testing, officials said.
If both cases are confirmed by the state, the total number of cases on Kauai since the onset of the pandemic will increase to 61. The island’s State Department of Health official coronavirus count remains at 59 throughout the month.
“While pre-travel and post-travel testing can provide an additional layer of protection, quarantine is always the safest option,” Mayor Derek SK Kawakami said in a news release. “Travelers currently have the option of testing the quarantine, but it is advisable to stay as far away as possible from others for 14 days after the trip.”
