Topeka, Kansas (AP) —The Kansas Department of Investigation told state legislators this week that it had received 215 tips on sexual abuse of Catholic clergy and filed 122 proceedings.
KBI Managing Director Robert Jacobs told lawmakers that the Task Force, which was set up to investigate clerical abuse, has reviewed about 40,000 records since its work began in 2019.
He says the Catholic Church leaders helped with the effort. KBI’s Catholic Clergy Task Force was established at the request of Derek Schmidt of the Attorney General’s Office.
Investigators are not only interested in examining the allegations themselves, but are also investigating what follow-throughs have occurred since the allegations were reported, Jacobs said.
