Kansas City, Missouri (KCTV) – Mayor Quinton Lucas, Wal-Mart, and YMCA in Greater Kansas City have announced a weekly COVID-19 vaccine partnership that will begin this weekend and will take place over the next six weeks.
According to the city’s announcement, this will immunize more than 3,500 Kansas citizens with the “shortest life expectancy zip code.”
Wal-Mart will host a clinic at the Kansas City YMCA location using a vaccine allocation provided directly to Wal-Mart by the federal government. Vaccines do not withdraw or change Kansas City’s weekly vaccine quotas from the state.
“Eligible Kansas citizens will be notified by the Kansas City Health Department of this vaccination opportunity,” the release from the city continues. “For safety and security reasons, certain YMCA locations will only be disclosed to those who are eligible to be vaccinated through this partnership. Walk up due to the very limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine. Is not accepted. “
“My office and city continue our work to ensure fair vaccine distribution, so we are proud that this vaccine allocation will reach the Kansas citizens who need the most vaccines through our partnership with Wal-Mart. I think, “said Mayor Lucas. “The Kansas City Department of Health has begun to identify and notify qualified Kansas Citians by email and phone of this opportunity to ensure that people who do not have regular access to the internet in need of vaccines are not skipped. No one will be left behind as the vaccine continues to be deployed. Thanks to Walmart, YMCA, and the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force for their prompt and diligent work. Such future partnerships. I am looking forward to it.”
John Mikos, President and Chief Executive Officer of YMCA in Greater Kansas City, said: “Providing our space to improve vaccine equity fulfills our mission to ensure that all of our communities have access to the resources they need to thrive. Is one way you can. “
“We are pleased that the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force can help coordinate the mass vaccination event over the last few weeks,” said Renita Morman, chair of the Kansas City COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force. “Our Task Force was responsible for helping to ensure efficient and equitable vaccine deployment. This event is just one example of how communities can come together to protect the most vulnerable people. We thank Wal-Mart for our partnership and look forward to more events in the future. “
