‘Keep the Cheer Here’ campaign encourages shopping local this holiday season – Tampa, Florida

Tampa, Florida — The new campaign wants more people to continue shopping locally as business owners in the community need rebound assistance during this holiday season.

“This year, local shopping will be more important than ever,” said Kerry Flannery, president and chief executive officer of the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The South Tampa Chamber of Commerce or Commerce is launching a new holiday shopping campaign, “Keep the Cheer Here.”

“We encourage shoppers to shop early, safely and locally throughout the holiday season,” Flannery said.

The purpose of the new campaign is to encourage people to honor small local businesses throughout the community.

“It’s tempting to shop online or look for deals from major retailers, but for those who can stop and think for a moment, you can procure this locally. Can I get this good service or this service locally? That extra $ 1 or $ 2 you might pay will go to your neighbors, “Flannery said. ..

Officials say many stores in the Tampa Bay area were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Many local retailers make up the majority of their annual revenue in the last two months of the year, so they really want these two months to be positive. Lost earlier this year. There are greater revenue opportunities than in the last few years because of the potential, “Flanary said.

“There are a lot of local restaurants trying to make some of that year-end revenue,” she added.

With safety at the forefront, many business owners have made some changes to make people more comfortable shopping locally.

They include:

  • Ask customers to wear face masks
  • Put a sticker on the floor to keep a physical distance
  • Provision of hand sanitizer
  • Limit the number of people who can enter the store at one time

“One of the things we’ve suggested to business owners is that people are under pressure to extend the entire weekend and even the entire season, rather than the Black Friday one-day sale or the small business Saturday one-day sale. Don’t feel it. Go shopping that day, “Flanary said.

Leaders encourage customers to respect the COVID-19 policies and protocols implemented by retailers and restaurants to ensure the safety of all.

There are also options for those who are not good at shopping directly.

“Currently, there are many local companies that offer goods and services online, or offer curbside pickups,” says Flannery.

Upcoming events that can support your local business include Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Giving Tuesday.
