Kern County Public Health reported 477 new cases of coronavirus and 5 new deaths on Wednesday.
The update brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Kern County to 148,261 and kills 1,657.
As of Tuesday, 228 people were hospitalized for the virus, up five from the previous day, according to state data. 71 patients were admitted to the intensive care unit, an increase of 5 from the previous day.
Since January 21, 96.5% of all coronavirus infections have occurred in unvaccinated individuals. In addition, 97.2 percent of all hospitalizations have been reported among unvaccinated individuals.
By age, 22,862 people aged 0 to 17 are infected with COVID-19, 87,148 aged 18 to 49, 25,333 aged 50 to 64, and 12,806 aged 65 and over.
