Pittsburgh — New Pittsburgh Courier learns that the DQE Holdings LLC (DQE) Board of Directors has appointed Kevin Walker as the new president and CEO of Duquesne Light Company (DLC), Duquesne Light Holdings, Inc., and DQE.
Walker will replace Mark Kaplan, who has been playing a tentative role since January of this year. Kaplan is also Chief Financial Officer and will remain in that position during June, after which he will be a Special Advisor to the company’s management and board of directors. Matthew Ankrum will become Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on July 1.

Prior to joining DLC as Chief Operating Officer in April 2020, Walker was Senior Vice President of Customer and Operations Services and Nuclear Decommissioning in Edison, Southern California. In that role, he oversaw the customer experience for over 5 million accounts. Services provided to businesses through the Operational Services Group include supply chain, corporate real estate, transportation services, and corporate environmental services. On-site transfer of spent nuclear fuel from wet storage to dry storage. In addition, he has held Chief Operating Officer-level positions at both Iberdrola and American Electric Power.
Being the first black, colored, president and CEO of DLC, he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served for six years as a field artillery officer deployed in the Middle East to support operations in the desert storm. .. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the West Point Academy and a master’s degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He is a board member of the American Black Energy Association and the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum.
Walker lives in Marshall Township with his spouse John, seven-year-old twins Grace and Max, and two dogs, Erie and Henry. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, hiking and exploring many of Pittsburgh’s trails and parks.
