Fentanyl, a highly addictive opioid, often penetrates teenagers’ bedrooms with a few text messages and a few taps on their smartphones.

Only small amounts of this dangerous drug can have fatal consequences.

ABC Localish Studios and ABC30’s unforgettable original documentary “Killer High: The Silent Crisis” explores the influence of fentanyl through a family eye. Medical professionals who have to deal with its deadly consequences.

I heard from two mothers. Amy is a nurse and mother of three boys who are having a hard time dealing with her eldest son’s addiction. And Penny vowed to save his son’s memory by losing his eldest son to an overdose of fentanyl and helping other parents find signs of warning.

We also hear from first responders, health officials and law enforcement officers why the effects of fentanyl are different from any of the drugs previously treated.
