Kings Cultural Center hosting Dia De Los Muertos event this weekend – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2021-10-20 21:30:36 –

Kings County, CA (KFSN)-After a year of face-to-face events and suspension of activities, the Kings Cultural Center hosts its Diadelos Muertos event on Sunday.

Founders Juan and Consuelomedia have been passionate about Hispanic roots since childhood and say the event has deeper implications this year.

“I have a family of two who died this year in the last six months, which is special to me,” said Juan.

The main altar is almost complete and this weekend a small altar of community members will fill the room.

The Medinas say this center is their second home.

They began teaching children various Hispanic traditions, including music and dance, in the garage, and thanks to demand and support, this space is now open to everyone in Armona.

“To show what our tradition is and to be able to pass it on to the younger generation,” Consuelo said. “We also have classes with small children and their parents and grandparents.”

Their program includes teaching how to play musical instruments such as the guitar and trumpet. They also teach Polynesia, salsa and folk dance.

Their eldest daughter, Sophia Medina, says she is excited to help the center grow and bring the event back.

“This year, not only my family, but many others have been affected. I want everyone to come and remember their loved ones at our special event,” she says. I did.

The Sunday event is free and runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. They encourage you and your family to bring pictures of loved ones to put on Alter.
