KMTV staffers share NYC and Omaha memories of 9/11 – Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) — 3 NewsNow reporter Jon Kipper spoke with two KMTV staff members who experienced September 11 in a very different way.

Robert McDonald, lovingly known as “Bobby Mac” around the station, worked at KMTV that day. He remembers that people in downtown Omaha’s office tower left the building because they didn’t know what to expect.

Meanwhile, Digital Content Manager Katrina Markel lived in Weehawken, New Jersey, along the Hudson River, overlooking the New York City skyline. Originally from Iowa, she remembers hearing the sirens and fighters of the day for hours and the burning scent that remained in the city for weeks after the attack. The tragedy was part of why Katrina decided to go to a journalism school.
