LAMAR — Lamar Lady Savages It was a crazy week for the volleyball team.

The team is currently undefeated 16-0, hasn’t lost the set all year round, and has won the fourth seed in the 3A Volleyball Tournament.

However, Lady Savage may not be able to participate in state tournaments.

Last Wednesday, Lamar players tested positive for COVID-19 and the entire team was quarantined.

On a positive test, the Colorado Department of Health determined on Monday that Lady Savage would not be able to play in state tournaments.

But on Tuesday, reports surfaced that Lamar might be able to play after the Prowers County Commission.

According to KLMR 920, Lamar athlete director Chris Medina needs to put together video evidence that other athletes were not in close contact with infected athletes.

If state health officials accept this evidence, Lamar may reclaim some players from quarantine.

This is not the first time this has happened within CHSAA this year. The Barak Christian football team and the Briggsdale men’s basketball team were in a similar situation before the state championship game.

Both teams had all players test COVID-19 and all tests returned negative. Both teams were then allowed to participate in state tournaments.

The COVID-19 quarantine has already forced two teams to withdraw from this season’s postseason play at Pueblo West and Manitou Springs.
