Dubai, United Arab Emirates-A container ship moored in Dubai at one of the world’s largest ports ignited late Wednesday, causing an explosion and shaking the entire commercial center of the United Arab Emirates. ..

According to a Twitter post from Dubai’s state media office, the fire broke out on a ship at the huge Jebel Ali port in the Persian Gulf on the eastern side of the Arabian Peninsula.

Authorities posted a video of firefighters sprinkling huge shipping containers. When the ambulance crew struck the area, I could see the flames rising in the background.

The media office said the fire had been controlled by early Thursday and there were no immediate reports of casualties. The extent of the damage to the port and surrounding cargo was not immediately clear.

People in Dubai recording on their mobile phones from skyscrapers posted a desperate video on social media showing a fiery ball illuminating the night sky.

Witnesses reported that the buildings were shaking in the city. Residents of the area 25 km (15 miles) away felt a blast at around 11:45 pm. Associated Press journalists felt a sudden explosion rocking the glass windows of the apartment.

Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port is one of the largest and largest ports in the Middle East. We provide cargo from the Indian subcontinent, Africa and Asia. Operated by Dubai-based DP World, the port has four vast container terminals where some of the world’s largest vessels can be moored.

DP World, the world’s fourth-largest port operator, describes Jebel Ali Port as a “gateway hub” and a “important link to the global trade network” connecting the east and west markets.
