Large employers launch telemedicine programs to tackle black health

Walmart, the country’s largest employer, is working with telemedicine companies Grand Round and Doctor On Demand to launch a targeted program to address the health inequalities of African-American workers.

“We have nearly 300,000 blacks and African Americans (employees), and about 50% of our workforce is made up of people of color, so how do we influence and which? The Grand Round and Doctor On Demand believe that its diverse pool of doctors will help close the gap between colored workers who may be distrustful of the healthcare system.

“Our doctors’ practice is almost 50% black, indigenous, or colored. 21% are black and 20% are LGBTQ,” said Tong.

The new initiative aims to launch targeted services in 2022.
