Fresno, California 2022-05-30 10:10:22 –
“Black and black smoke in the flames behind soaring in the air. That is, this area was completely black,” said John Lille.
Lille lives in the immediate vicinity of Hoxy Avenue’s home near Peach Avenue and Jensen Avenue. It went up in flames on Sunday afternoon.
He shared a mobile phone video with Action News.
Other neighbors reported hearing the explosion before the fire.
“There are some propane tanks behind that can be involved in the incident or follow the actual fire,” said Fresno fire brigade commander Devin McGuire.
A Fresno fire department official said the cause was still under investigation, but the homeowner was cooking at the time.
The man was also injured in the fire and suffered two burns on his face and arms. He is expected to be okay.
Everyone else was able to safely leave the house before the flames and dark black smoke overtook the house.
“When I got here, the first track was here. The backtop story was in flames,” Leal said.
About 12 fire brigades and more than 40 firefighters fought a fire in the house, which was difficult due to the weather.
“This was a wind fire. I was very lucky that the crew could get here as soon as possible,” McGuire said.
The house was completely destroyed.
The fire spread to several annexes in the yard of this house and a neighboring house. They were damaged, but the crew was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes.
Action News spoke with off-camera residents who said the fire shook them. They will be with their families while working on the reconstruction.
