Large vegetation fire prompts mandatory evacuations near Auberry – Fresno, California

Fresno, CA (KFSN)-A wildfire caused a forced evacuation in the hills of Fresno County, south of Auberry.

The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon at the Oberry Sawmill on Oberry Road, northeast of Fraser Road.

According to CAL FIRE / Fresno County Fire, a pile of 5 acres of logs ignited and spread to about 3-4 acres of surrounding vegetation. The fire threatened nearby buildings.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said lawmakers were evacuees near the area east of Obery Road.

O’Berry Road is closed between Fraser Road and SJ & E Road. Authorities are urging drivers and residents to avoid the area.

A fire they call a deck fire can be found on the ABC30 Meadow Lakes Skycam. Images show that dark smoke rises and large flames near some structures are burning vegetation.

Helicopters and aerial fire extinguishers were seen dropping flame retardants and water into the fire.

I didn’t immediately know what ignited.
