Las Vegas Monorail reopens as convention business, tourism pick up – Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas, Nevada 2021-05-27 09:59:09 –

Las Vegas (KLAS) — The strip resort is back. The convention is back in town. Now the old way of moving around is back.

Today, the Las Vegas Monorail has been revived after being closed for 15 months.

“The monorail is a very important solution that helps move visitors and reduce congestion in and around their destination,” said Lorinelson Craft of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Moving the strip up and down from the convention center is a very convenient part of our transportation system.

The monorail will resume at 7am on Thursday in time for conventions and events returning to Las Vegas.

“Before the pandemic, nearly 5 million passengers used the monorail,” said Nelson Craft. “It’s been running from Sahara to MGM, so when we pitched our destination, it was a really important solution for us.”

It is also an excellent solution for the environment.

“You are looking at an all-electric system running at zero emissions,” said Nelson Craft. Each year, over 2 million miles of vehicles are saved and reduced off the road. Emissions of 27 tons or more will also be reduced. “

Nelson-Kraft describes this as “a great system that’s convenient, but green is definitely a priority on the monorail.”

When the monorail resumes, the COVID-19 protocol will also be introduced.

“Public transport still needs masks and we have additional cleaning and sanitation facilities that are always a top priority,” said Kraft Nelson. “But it’s a fun and convenient way to get in and out of your destination. I’m very excited to be able to resume this morning.”

Stops along the monorail route include Flamingo, The LINQ, and the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Resumption is another signal that the city is reopening.
