Las Vegas (KTNV) —Dr. Den Amborn was named the first official fan of the Las Vegas Raiders this year in 2020. Her goal was to use her season tickets to take her child to a game where she might not have the opportunity to participate on her own. ..
She and Mission High student Omar Soto met on the day of the preseason match. His principal suggested that he was the one chosen to attend.
“She called me to her office, and I was very scared,” Soto said. “I thought I would get into trouble or something. Then she asked me, how do you want to go to a Raiders football game? I said I wanted to.”
Soto is about to graduate from Mission High School, a campus where students recovering from substance abuse get help. He had a hard time dealing with family loss at an early age.
“I wanted to get rid of my emotions, but I didn’t want them to be there,” Soto said. “I was just starting out like everyone else, I started smoking weeds and drinking alcohol. It has progressed over the years.”
Soto appreciates what Bourne is doing for the children in the valley.
“My mom had to work just to put food on the table for us, my dad had to work to pay the rent, and we really don’t have much I’m glad she took the students and did what they probably couldn’t have done, “Soto said.
It’s their first pre-season match, but they both say it’s a day they always remember.
“It was fulfilling to see the joy of being in the stadium,” Bourne said. “He thought it was beautiful.”
