Las Vegas (KTNV) — Las Vegas veteran Lt. Vincent Shank has reached one of the few milestones in 105 years since he was born on Sunday.
“Everyone asks what your secret is, but no secret! Just keep walking,” said 104-year-old Shank a few days before partying with friends and family.
He was a World War II veteran and joined the army after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
On one of his missions, he was taken prisoner and spent nearly two years.
“In the 33rd mission, I was shot down in Sicily,” Shank said.
Eventually, he was rescued, which led his life to a new path-a road filled with milestones after a milestone.
Shank said he plans to celebrate in a true Las Vegas style with a big parade and some friends.
So what does another trip around the sun mean for this veteran?
“It’s exciting. It’s nice to see so many people coming out and then making something,” Shank said.
And even if he says there’s no secret to longevity, it’s probably a good idea to get advice from someone who has 10 years under his belt.
“You have to walk … the longer you walk, the longer you live,” he said.
