Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) — The COVID-19 pandemic is coordinating the Nashville program, which offers Christmas gifts to thousands of local children, to help families in need.

The Last Minute Toy Store offers new toys and gifts to families who are unsupported or missed the deadline for other Christmas charities and organizations in central Tennessee.

Usually, the tables at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Service Center are full of toys, sporting goods, books, and games for children of all ages. Parents can shop for their children for free.

This year the gifts will be collected and distributed differently, but the organizers say the mission is the same.

“COVID has changed a lot, and it’s also changing Christmas,” said Dale Roble, president of Last Minute Toy Store. “It wasn’t really an immediate problem, it was a question of how to do it.”

Robble said all families will register online this year and offer a wish list of gifts. Volunteers buy products and collect them in huge bags. You can receive gifts during the touchless drive-through event.

Online registration began on November 1st and was fully booked in 48 hours. About 1,500 families have signed up to participate in the program.

“I think the need is huge right now,” says Robble.

Roble also said he was concerned about having enough toys for children in need to have a Merry Christmas. Many groups host toy and donation drives throughout the year, but these events were canceled due to a pandemic.

Robble encouraged members of the community to step up and help. Individuals purchasing donations can drop through the drive-through of the Davidson County Security Officer Office Service Center from 9am to noon on December 5th and from 1pm to 4pm on December 6th. All donated gifts will be sent directly to the local family. Those who are qualified for the program.

“We don’t want our kids to wake up and have Christmas,” Roble said.

The store is open daily from 10am to 5pm on December 17th, 18th and 19th.
