Hatchinson, Kansas (KSNW) – On June 5, 2021, the football team at Hatchinson Community College won the NJCAA National Title. Three months later, Blue Dragons started the 2021 season, but canceled the season opening.
In two seasons, just a few months apart, Hutchinson dealt with fatigue and injuries throughout, but the Blue Dragon found their ditch late and ended the season with a record of 8-2.
Despite the improvements, Hutchinson missed a spot in the playoffs. The top four teams succeeded and Blue Dragons finished in 5th place.
But the Hutchinson season isn’t over. The dominant champion will face the Salt City Bowl at Hinds Community College this Saturday at Gowan Stadium.
For many players, including Star Running Back Thai Edwards, Saturday’s game is the last JUCO game they play and will probably be the last game of their career.
Edwards was shining in the rookie season, rushing through eight games with a total of 713 yards and eight touchdowns. However, after fast-forwarding for a few months, Edwards suffered a high ankle sprain and was unable to play in three games, limiting his return.
The second grade is completely healthy and ready to finish Hutchinson’s journey on Saturday.
