Austin, Texas — Texas Congressman has urged Governor Greg Abbott to reconsider the ban on mask obligations.
On Saturday, Congressman Vicky Goodwin (D) issued a petition via Twitter asking the governor to allow schools to mandate masks and offer virtual learning options.
The petition is currently signed by 31 Texas House members, demonstrating the prevalence of COVID-19 Delta variants as the main impetus for reinstatement of Mask’s obligations. According to the release, “The State Department of Health states that weekly new cases across the state have more than quintupled last month.”
Parents are worried about the delta variant. They want schools to take precautions-mask obligations and virtual learning options. These options are not available at the behest of Governor Abbott. I sent this letter asking for reconsideration. It was signed by 31 of my colleagues. #txlege pic.twitter.com/vNdFfXYzeZ

With the school reopening in just a few weeks, the petition says legislators received several calls from parents concerned about the lack of COVID-19 protection at the school for the next school year.
Lawmakers are calling on Abbott to act in two ways. It is to provide virtual learning options to endangered or unvaccinated students and to overturn the current ban on masking obligations in schools.
