DENVER (KDVR) – The lawyer representing Lee Keltner’s widow said the family was struggling nearly a week after Keltner was shot and killed during dueling protests in downtown Denver.
“I don’t think anyone can really imagine the position they find themselves in,” said William Boyle.
Matthew Dolloff, 30, is charged with second degree murder on Keltner’s death. Dolloff was hired as a security guard by 9NEWS but was not licensed.
Photos and videos show the moments leading up to the fatal shooting. Keltner attended the “Patriot Muster” rally which faced off against the “BLM / Antifa Soup Drive”. He approached a 9NEWS producer to stop him recording an altercation, then sprayed a sledgehammer almost the same time Dolloff fired.
Boyle says they tried to get answers from all parties involved.
9NEWS said it contracted with Pinkerton Security to hire Dolloff. FOX31 learned that Pinkerton was contracted out to Isborn Security Services.
“There have been failures – catastrophic top-down failures that started long before October 10 and led to this situation,” Boyle said.
Boyle has so far said they have failed to engage with the parties involved. He says they haven’t ruled out taking legal action against those they believe are responsible for the circumstances surrounding Keltner’s death.
“It’s definitely an option. If we are left with no other option, we will certainly pursue all available legal avenues, ”Boyle said.
Boyle says Keltner was not an official member of any political organization. He says Keltner’s family want others to remember him as a father, husband, grandfather, and veteran.
