The use of LED screens has become widespread and massive nowadays. They stand out for displaying information and advertising visible from large or small distances. Compared to advertising signs or static billboards, LED displays offer a dynamic and cutting-edge for a faster, easier to replace and attractive information medium for attracting viewers. The control system of LED screens can be done in a centralized way (local NETWORK with UTP CAT5 or CAT6 cable for greater reliability of data transmission) or remotely (with optical fiber, wireless network or 3G or 4G control). It is also possible to highlight the use of giant high-resolution polychromatic LED technology screens, with full color video in multitudinous events, where it is impossible to have a good view of what is happening: concerts, rallies, public events, competitions, stadiums, etc. We must not forget the decorative LED signs, which are often part of the lighting of the place itself, such as nightclubs, bars, floors and walls of dance floors, shopping malls…
Giant LED screens
Giant LED screens are commonly manufactured in a modular way (several modules to form the complete screen), in order to facilitate installation, transportation and maintenance. A Module or Cabinet has certain characteristics that add up when assembling several modules or cabinets. The main characteristics of LED displays are: the pixel pitch (measured in mm), the type of LEDs, either DIP (Direct In-line Package) or SMD (Surface Mounted Diode), the resolution (depending on the number of pixels and the technology implemented), the maximum power consumption (watts), the IP protection (resistance to environmental conditions) and the quality of the LEDs (there are many types and brands) that will determine the life, brightness, sharpness, contrast and reliability of our display.123
Giant outdoor LED displays
Outdoor LED displays have to be protected against damage from the environment: heat/cold, dust, wind and rain. The protection is indicated by a rating for the front side and a rating for the back side (IP rating). A display with an IP65/IP47 rating, for example, is protected on the front side against dust with a rating of 6 and against rain with a rating of 5, on the back side it is protected with a rating of 4 against dust and 7 against rain. Its resolution (directly related to image quality) is measured by the distance between its pixels, usually measured in millimeters. In the case of real pixel type displays (one red, one blue and one green LED), in which three LEDs make up each pixel, the number of pixels spanned both horizontally and vertically will determine the quality of the display; e.g. 10mm pixel pitch = 1 pixel every 10mm, so in 100mm of horizontal or vertical distance there would be 10 pixels. Similarly, with Virtual Pixel Technology type displays (two red, one blue and one green LED), where four LEDs meet to form one pixel. This virtual pixel technology creates a higher pixel density in the LED display, since pixels are perceived (to human optics) between pixel centers. This makes it possible to obtain virtual pixels (pixels that do not really exist, but are created between real pixel centers).

Monochrome, bicolor or tricolor displays
Monochrome, bicolor or tricolor LED displays are displays dedicated to displaying regular alphanumeric characters. They can also display graphics, but to a limited extent. These displays can consist of single-color, bicolor or tricolor LEDs, with which text, numbers and some low-resolution graphics can be displayed. They can be deployed indoors or outdoors.
For outdoors these displays feature super bright LEDs for adequate daylight readability.

Pixel pitch is the measure of the distance between the pixel centers of an LED display. The higher the pixel pitch, the greater the pixel spacing, whether the pixels are RGB pixels (red, green and blue) or single-color, two-color or three-color pixels. The pixel pitch also influences the viewing distance, i.e. the smaller the pixel pitch, the closer the display can be viewed with good quality. This does not apply to monochrome, two-color or three-color displays whose main function is to display text, numbers or low-resolution graphics.
