Boston (WHDH)-A founding member of the group Run-DMC works with a local telemedicine company to help students suffering from mental health problems.
Legendary rapper Darryl “DMC” McDaniels said he was open about his own fight against mental health and knew it could affect everyone.
“Simply put, I was an alcoholic, suicidal ideation, metaphysical and mentally depressed wreck,” he said.
The DMC said he fought for decades to get help before finally getting into rehab and treatment.
“I didn’t know where I could get help, I didn’t know I was supposed to get help. I didn’t know it was cool to get help. It’s okay to ask for help. I didn’t know, “he said. .. “And I’m a powerful DMC. A man who told the world,” Walk Adidas this way. ”
Currently, DMC wants to make it easy for others to get help.
He recently joined Uwill, a new telemedicine company based in Boston. Startups work with universities across the country to deploy students with therapists.
“It’s very important that students have immediate access when they feel a particular way or when they feel emotions,” he said. “And with the therapist, they can be involved.”
Michael London, founder and CEO of Uwill, said the demand for treatment is higher than ever.
“The needs are great. Many people are feeling different now,” London said.
He and DMC both say they were able to build a relationship and are grateful for finding help.
“The most powerful thing-the most gangster thing a man, woman, boy, or girl can do on their own, and that was a cure,” DMC said.
