Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — An unprecedented addition to this year’s CMA Fest is recognized during National Pride Month.

CMgAys has added a twist to the four-day music festival in downtown Nashville.

“This is one of the first LGBTQ showcases during the CMA Fest, which is also June, the month of national pride,” said artist and founder of CMg Ays, David Michael Hawkins. ..

All eight artists featured during the event were part of the local LGBTQIA community representing all music genres.

“I’ve just come out recently,” said artist JB Summers. “It’s my first time attending an LGBTQ + event, especially for artists in our community.”

The showcase was a realization of Hawkins’ dream.

“From 2022 to 2023, especially here in Nashville, LGBTQIA is very robust and healthy, but I think it’s time for us to get out of the back and be at the forefront,” Hawkins said. ..

He praised the musical moment of 2021 when Brothers Osborne won the vocal duo of the year shortly after member TJ Osborne appeared as gay.

“I think it was a really great step, but we haven’t really done much since then,” Hawkins said.

He wanted to take this move further and create the platform LGBTQNash.

“Both tourists and residents are looking for communities, places where LGBTQIA performers are appearing, places being interviewed, people with new single outs, collaborations and other showcases like this. I have a database that is updated weekly about who I am. It will be a place to go, “Hawkins said.

This platform aims to highlight their music and talented performers who embrace the real self.

“I think this is a very important event to attend in history,” Summers said. “

Some of the tickets sold at the concert on June 12 were donated to Trevor Project.. An organization that provides suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ youth.
