Pueblo, Colorado — The holiday tradition returned to Pueblo on Saturday night. Hundreds of people lined up on the streets of downtown Pueblo on Saturday to enjoy the 31st Annual Light Parade.
Last year, the event was put on hold because COVID-19 pandemics and parade participants wanted to see bright lights and colorful floats.
The theme of this year’s parade was Toyland. It took more than 90 minutes for all parade entries to cross Union Avenue Bridge into the historic center and head for the City Hall.
The event began with a fireworks display near the staging area of Mesa Junction.
“They were so much fun, it reminded me of July 4th again,” said Anna Prince, a fourth-year student at Desert Sage Elementary School.
Prince said she and her family have come to the parade every year since she was a baby. Her favorite entry this year was the horse and bathtub themed Splash Splash Float.
Many parade participants shared how much fun it was to get together as a community to watch the event. The suspension of the 2020 pandemic disappointed many.
“Last year it wasn’t there, it was a big misfortune for us, and it didn’t really give us the Christmas spirit I’ve always liked. Advertising gave me a little more hope,” Prince said. ..
The parade is hosted by the Pueblo Downtown Association. All local high school marching bands and cheerleaders joined the procession.
Other parade entries included corporate organizations, car clubs, and equestrian groups.
