Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – The Linwood Park Branch Library at 1901 S. Kansas in the Linwood Recreation Center will be closed on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the end of business and will be relocated to the new Dr. Ronald W. 4195E.Walters Branch on Harry Street
“We are pleased to move the Lynnwood Park branch to a new location so that we can enhance our library services and provide more opportunities for the community,” said Christie Dowell, interim director of the library. “We want our customers in southeastern Wichita to be able to connect, participate and learn from public libraries.”
Walters Branch will be available on February 1st. At 6,904 sq ft, it features a self-checking station, 16 public computing spaces, an expanded children’s and teens section, flexible seating, and a meeting room with off-hours features.
Customers using the Lynnwood Park Branch Library as their main location will be able to drop books and other materials at the Lynnwood Recreation Center’s Book Drops until January. Staff will continue to monitor the drop. All holds deposited at Linwood between January 16th and February 1st will be placed in storage and customers will be able to pick them up at the Walters branch office on February 1st.
The Lynnwood Park Branch Library opened in 1981 as part of the Lynnwood Park Mini City Hall. The Lynnwood branch is the last of these libraries to operate, although some branches were originally in similar facilities and co-located with services in other cities.
This move will restore library services in District 3 of the City Council.
